The two CDs come housed in an earth friendly, four panel mini-LP style gatefold package with all new artwork from long time collaborator Mike Reddy plus 4 new tracks!
Matthew Friedberger is one half of the The Fiery Furnaces brother and sister duo. This is Matt’s first solo record and was originally released in 2006 by 859 Recordings. Thrill Jockey is proud to be bringing this double album back in a new package with updated artwork.
Matt wrote and arranged all the music, played all the instruments (except for some drumming from John McEntire of Tortoise on a few tracks), and sings all the songs!
The record was co-produced by Bill Skibbe at Key Club Recording at Benton Harbor, Michigan in March of 2006.
The release has two full albums worth of music – Winter Women is a summer record of memorable, accessible, un-ironic, sixties inspired pop songs and Holy Ghost Language School is the musical equivalent of a stormy Murakami novel with the requisite sonic twists and turns which makes Matt’s work so original.
Both records will appeal to Furnaces fans but have a broader reach, especially Winter Women which is full of summer pop songs. The Fiery Furnaces have just released their latest studio masterpiece I’m Going Away and are touring extensively throughout the year to promote.
